Capsule Endoscopy of the small bowel helps detect and diagnose disorders of the small intestine, such as GI bleeding of the small bowel, small bowel tumors and Crohn's disease.

The patient ingests a small video capsule that has its own camera.  The exam lasts about 8 hours during which the patient can move freely. Throughout the test period, as the video capsule travels through the patient’s GI tract, it sends images to a data recorder that is worn close to the patient’s waist.  After the test is completed, the data recorder is returned to the doctor who reviews the recorded information to diagnose the patient’s condition.
